This May, City of Moreton Bay stands with all Queenslanders to mark Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month to raise awareness and send a clear message that violence in our communities will not be tolerated.

Mayor Peter Flannery said Council is committed to creating safer, more supportive communities for everyone.

“The theme for this year Take positive action today to build a safer Queensland, reminds us that change starts with each of us - everyone can play a role in ending domestic and family violence,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Prevention and support for people experiencing domestic and family violence in our community is something Council takes very seriously.

“This year we’ve provided more than $25,000 in support for key community initiatives including the Moreton Bay Says NO to Violence Walk and the Red Ride – Ride Against Domestic Violence.

“Together we need to send a strong message to the community that domestic violence will not be tolerated.”

President of the Centre Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) and founder of Red Ride – Ride Against Domestic Violence in Moreton Bay, Councillor Tony Latter said it’s time for community to show their support.

“I encourage everyone across City of Moreton Bay to show their support for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. Whether you attend an event, learn more about support services or strike up a difficult conversation, every action is a positive step towards change,” Councillor Latter said.

“I also want to thank the dedicated frontline workers and community leaders who work tirelessly every day to support those affected by violence and to drive long-term change.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and free from fear in their relationships. Whether you’re experiencing violence or control, using abusive behaviours, or witnessing it happen, there is support available. No one has to go through this alone. Together, we can build a community where respectful relationships are the norm, and where everyone feels safe and values.”
