Statement in relation to recent severe storm

On the afternoon of Monday 24 November, areas within City of Moreton Bay were heavily impacted by a very dangerous thunderstorm with large giant hailstones, damaging locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall.

Mayor Peter Flannery said public and staff safety was Council’s focus right now.

“Roads and pathways may be dangerous so be aware.

“Please be patient with our crews and the Emergency Services who are working hard to ensure the safety of the community.

There are currently no Disaster Recovery Arrangements in place.

  • Info hubs are open during regular business hours for residents to go for temporary relief, ability to charge a device and access information regarding the event.
  • All Council libraries are now active as places of refuge apart from Bribie, Burpengary and Woodford Libraries, closed due to no power.

  • The Bribie Island Recreation Hall at 156 First Ave, Bongaree is also open as a hub.
  • Deception Bay Community Centre - 2 Raymond Terrace, Deception Bay is open as a hub.
  • Council waste facilities are open usual business hours.  We encourage people to use our free green waste services and their green bins. Locations and opening hours here: Find a waste and recycling facility - City of Moreton Bay
  • Regular waste collection services continue as normal unless roads are unsafe. Catch up services will occur if necessary.
  • For food waste, if in doubt throw it out.
