- Home to three new full-size fields, lighting upgrades and increased car parks.
The Caboolture Sports Football Club (FC) now has facilities to compete with the best in South East Queensland, thanks to the completion of the new $8.5 million Soccer Precinct Stage 2, at the newly renamed Moreton Bay Sports Complex in Burpengary.
This jointly funded project between City of Moreton Bay and the Federal Government delivers three new fields, lighting upgrades and more car parking to cater for the club’s growing 1,250 registered players.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the significant upgrade completes work on the soccer precinct and adds to the existing $11 million upgrade that opened in 2019.
“It’s important that City of Moreton Bay’s facilities keep pace with our growing population,” he said.
“The Caboolture Sports FC has doubled its participation numbers since moving into our facility in 2019, which shows the demand for sport as our City continues to grow.
“This upgrade gives the club even more playing space to recruit more members and continue to boost participation numbers of local sport for years to come.
“This project is the cherry on top of the newly renamed Moreton Bay Sports Complex, which is one of the best multi-sport facilities in South East Queensland.
“In the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we want options for every City of Moreton Bay local to participate in sport, whether it’s playing for fun or following your dreams through elite pathways.
“I’d like to thank the Federal Government for its contribution of $3.5 million through the Investing in Our Communities Program (IiOC) to match Council’s investment and make this dream a reality for the local community.”
Senator for Queensland, Corinne Mulholland stated that with these new soccer fields and facilities, City of Moreton Bay is squarely on the map as a destination for elite teams.
“This complex now has the potential to host international football teams for training camps,” she said.
“In fact, in 2023 when Council hosted the Brazilian Women’s team here, during their World Cup Campaign, FIFA said this was one Queensland’s premier football facilities.
“But most important is the investment in quality playing surfaces for local kids, and the turn out here today from local families has been a sensational way to celebrate the official opening.”
Councillor Mark Booth (Div 2) said these upgrades further cement the Moreton Bay Sports Complex as one of the premier community facilities in South East Queensland.
“Only two years ago, this soccer precinct was home to the Brazil team during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and this expansion further elevates its quality as a world-class venue,” he said.
“Combine that with the elite swimming, AFL, and mountain bike precincts, and we’ve got one of the best community sports complexes in Queensland.
“This precinct is famous for producing one of Australia’s most decorated Olympians in our history, Kaylee McKeown, while the AFL precinct has hosted both the Brisbane Lions men and women.
“Who knows what superstar Matildas or Socceroos players this soccer precinct will produce in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Caboolture Sports FC General Manager of Football Reece Dalton thanked City of Moreton Bay and the Federal Government for the upgrade.
“Interest in football has always been strong, but it’s exploded in recent years with the expansion of the women’s game in Australia,” he said.
“We’re a community-orientated club focused on delivering broad range of competition and activities starting from our Miniroos program through to our over-45s team.
“Having a great facility like this allows us to promote the game to more people and increase support for our community.
“On behalf of the club I’d like to thank City of Moreton Bay and the Federal Government for their support.”
