  • Council’s City of Moreton Bay Matters campaign secures funding in the lead up to the federal election
  • A total of $5.35 million was secured for Council projects
  • This is in addition to over $41 million in Federal Government grants secured in the 24-25 financial year prior to the election

Council’s successful City of Moreton Bay Matters advocacy campaign in the lead up to the federal election, saw a total of $5.35 million funding secured across Dickson, Petrie and Longman electorates specific to Council projects. This is in addition to more than $41 million in Federal Government grants secured in the 24-25 financial year prior to the election.

Mayor Peter Flannery said he was pleased to see Council’s advocacy efforts pay off with concrete funding commitments for City of Moreton Bay.

“Our main priority during the lead up to the federal election was to advocate for funding for growth. This includes for infrastructure to tackle congestion and unlock housing, and funding to ensure liveability, sustainability and resilience.”

The ALP commitments include:

  • $1.6 million for upgrades being completed by Council at Kumbartcho Sanctuary and Nursery
  • $750,000 for upgrades to Woody Point Foreshore to assist with event requirements
  • $3 million for the refurbishment of Toovey Street complex
  • A commitment towards the Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation (UOMO) which Council hopes will also improve mobile coverage locally, especially NBN-deprived areas.

Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the election commitments, highlighting the positive impact they will have on the community and emphasising the value of partnerships.

“Council has a reputation for working collaboratively with all levels of Government, and we look forward to continuing this approach with the re-elected Labor Government to now deliver these projects for our community.

“During the lead up to the election, we engaged early and regularly with all local members of Parliament and candidates for Moreton Bay as part of our bipartisan approach, providing them with a clear list of city-wide and electorate level election priorities. We are also grateful for the commitments made by the LNP candidates prior to the election.

“With our population growing rapidly, planning for our future is critical. While there’s still more work to do, this funding is a step towards meeting those needs. We know City of Moreton Bay Matters, and we’re proud to be securing national-level funding for our community.”

“We look forward to working with two new MPs Emma Comer and Ali France and new Labor Senator Corinne Mulholland as well as Terry Young who was re-elected in Longman.”
