New Division 11 Councillor for City of Moreton Bay
Published 08 October 2025
City of Moreton Bay today congratulated Councillor Elect Ellie Smith, who will represent Division 11, following the Electoral Commission of Queensland’s official declaration.
The Division 11 By-election followed the resignation of Cr Darren Grimwade in July this year.
Mayor Peter Flannery said he was looking forward to welcoming Ellie Smith to the Council table.
“We are fortunate that our Council is non-party aligned, and as a diverse group of voices, we are able to work constructively together to ensure our focus is on delivering a positive and thriving future for City of Moreton Bay.
“We’re committed to listening to all our residents so we can grow in a balanced way well beyond this current term of Council.
“We too are residents and genuinely want the best for our community.”
CEO of City of Moreton Bay Scott Waters welcomed councillor elect Ellie Smith and congratulated her on putting herself forward for a role with Council.
“At the 2024 Local Government Election this division was uncontested. In congratulating Ellie as Councillor Elect, it is important to also recognise the 6 unsuccessful candidates for their nomination. The campaign was respectful, with a clear winner and I applaud the level of commitment and sacrifice all the candidates made during the By-election period.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Cr Cath Tonks and Cr Tony Latter who have very ably shared responsibilities relating to Division 11, following the resignation of Darren Grimwade.”
Ellie Smith will undertake the oath of office on Friday 10 October.
