John Bray Park has been transformed with a nature-inspired focus, featuring a Scribbly Gum moth cocoon play tower, a crawl tunnel in the shape of a tree log, and wet and dry creek beds.

The upgraded district-level park on Walsham Street in Bray Park was celebrated at an opening event on 21 January.

The all-ages, nature-inspired playground is nestled within existing trees and enhanced by more than 100 new eucalyptus trees.

It also features a footpath linking it to Bray Park train station and Strathpine Centre, making it an easily accessible destination for families to explore.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the upgrade reflects local feedback with open turf areas for ball games, shaded picnic facilities and a multipurpose sport and pickleball court as well as fitness equipment.  An accessible amenities block and carparking has also been added.

“It’s truly a park for everyone!” Mayor Peter Flannery said.

“Parks and open spaces are essential for community wellbeing.

“This upgrade delivers a welcoming, family-friendly space shaped by local feedback, so it’s fantastic to see people already enjoying this new space.

“I am especially proud of how, as part of the upgrade, we have protected of our key local environmental corridors.”

Division 8 Councillor Jim Moloney said the community turnout at the opening event showed how much the park means to Bray Park locals.

“John Bray Park has always been a well-loved green space, and this upgrade takes it to the next level,” Cr Moloney said.

“There’s something here for young and old, from nature play and sports to shaded picnic spots and beautiful open areas to relax.

“I want to thank residents for their input, in shaping the final design. This is a fantastic community asset, and I’m proud to see it open and already being enjoyed.”

The upgrade is part of City of Moreton Bay’s commitment to expanding and improving parks, playgrounds, and open spaces for our growing city. Find out more: New district park | John Bray Park upgrade - City of Moreton Bay
