In a Queensland first, City of Moreton Bay is proud to launch the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition at Redcliffe Museum this May.

This world‑renowned photographic competition uses humour to spark meaningful conversations about wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting biodiversity.

The upcoming exhibition will feature 60 entry finalists spanning from 2015 to 2025.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the exhibition is a major highlight of this year’s gallery calendar.

“Hosting the exhibition here in City of Moreton Bay brings significant cultural and visitation benefits to our City.

“This will be the first time these images are being showcased in Queensland, and Council is proud to launch the exhibition for residents and visitors to experience.

“It also provides an opportunity to reflect on our own conservation efforts, including maintaining 75 percent of our City as rural and natural landscapes,” he said.

City of Moreton Bay Museum Curator Carly Hughes said the inspiration to host the exhibition came from wanting to bring an enjoyable event to the City while highlighting the need for conservation.

“The annual awards attract thousands of entries every year, and we’ve selected 60 images from 2015-2025 to be showcased in the Redcliffe Museum’s version of the exhibition.

“Beyond being an exhibition that celebrates the hilarity of our natural world, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards help shine a light on what we need to do to protect it.

“The exhibition content also fosters empathy by highlighting shared behaviours and expressions between humans and animals.

“Museum goers can expect a light-hearted and fun experience with some laugh out loud moments, including cheeky lion cubs, smiling grizzly bears and even flying squirrels. As well as the image exhibition, we’ll also be featuring some of the best video entries,” Ms Hughes said.

The exhibition is supported by a series of free, public programs including a Wildlife Unleashed workshop on Saturday 30 May and a Bugs Ed workshop on Saturday 27 June.

Outside of the exhibition, Council has a number of voluntary conservation programs that the community can get involved in to help protect the City’s native flora and fauna, including Land for Wildlife and Bushcare groups.

The Comedy Photography Awards exhibition will run from 30 May to 16 August at Redcliffe Museum. Entry is free for all ages. More details about the exhibition and opening hours can be found at The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards - Moreton Bay Galleries & Museums.
