- Key community halls in the City of Moreton Bay are getting a cool $3.3 million in upgrades
- The improvements include air conditioning, solar and car park lighting upgrades
- The upgrades will ensure key halls are cooler and more accessible for locals all year round, particularly in our hot summer months
Community groups across the City of Moreton Bay will benefit from $3.3 million in improvements to key community halls, including upgraded air conditioning, lighting and solar systems.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the improvements were vital for encouraging hall use, community connection and participation.
“Members of the public visit our halls more than half a million times each year, so it’s important we continue to invest in these spaces to support everything from community meetings and sports classes to craft activities and local celebrations,” he said.
“These upgrades mean our halls will be cooler and more accessible for everyone, all year round, particularly in our hot summer months.
“I’m pleased to see upgrades completed at the Narangba and Beachmere halls, and look forward to seeing Burpengary, Morayfield and Strathpine finalised. These are vital hubs for our communities, and these upgrades will ensure they continue to thrive for years to come.”
The community hall upgrades include:
- Narangba Community Centre: new air-conditioning and solar power system
- Beachmere Hub: new air-conditioning system and acoustic panelling
- Burpengary Community Hall: new car park lighting
- Strathpine Community Centre: new air-conditioning system
- Morayfield Community Hall: new air-conditioning and solar power system.
Councillor Mark Booth (Division 2) said the Narangba Community Centre, Burpengary Community Hall and Beachmere Hub upgrades were guided by local feedback.
“The air conditioning and solar upgrades make a huge difference for everyone using the Narangba Community Centre, especially for our free and low-cost Healthy and Active Moreton classes during the warmer months. It’s all about making the space more comfortable and welcoming,” Cr Booth said.
“New lighting across the Burpengary Community Hall carpark means both hall users and the neighbouring rugby league clubhouse members can now walk more safely to their cars after dark, which is a small change that makes a big difference to our community safety.
“Beachmere locals love getting involved in community life, and now groups like the Bowls Club and U3A can do it in air-conditioned comfort. Thank you to the Beachmere Area Network Group for contributing towards this upgrade.”
Councillor Jim Moloney (Division 8) said the Strathpine Community Centre would be more inviting than ever.
“Many local groups call this space home so having reliable air conditioning means they and everyone else can enjoy their activities in the Strathpine Community Centre all year round, and that’s something I’m really proud to support,” Cr Moloney said.
Councillor Tony Latter (Division 12) was excited to see the Morayfield Community Hall have air conditioning for the first time in its history.
“The Morayfield Community Hall has hosted everything from annual shows and community events to Healthy and Active Moreton classes, but it’s never had air conditioning. I’m thrilled we have delivered this upgrade so residents can enjoy the space in comfort for years to come,” Cr Latter said.
These upgrades are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive, and well-equipped spaces across the City of Moreton Bay.
