The spirit of disco is set to be Stayin Alive’ this June, when Bee Gees Way in Redcliffe comes to life for an explosive, feel-good pop-up performance of the Bee Gees classics – kazoo style!
As part of City of Moreton Bay’s Make Music Month celebrations, Council is calling upon everyone from experienced kazoo players to those wanting to try something new, to come and make Night Fever history with Moreton Bay’s first ever Bee Gees kazoo flash mob at 9:30am on Sunday 21 June.
The event coincides with the internationally celebrated Make Music Day, where free live music is performed in public places across 120 countries.
Mayor Peter Flannery said City of Moreton Bay is proud to be the home of the Bee Gees.
“Council established Bee Gees Way along the Redcliffe foreshore in 2013 to give residents and tourists the opportunity to take a trip down memory lane with one of the world’s biggest musical groups.
“Now, every member of the community is invited to come and make history as we host Moreton Bay’s first ever Bee Gees kazoo flash mob.
“The exciting event is part of City of Moreton Bay’s annual Make Music Month celebrations, as we shine a spotlight on our City’s diverse local musical talent,” he said.
To help get people flash mob ready, City of Moreton Bay is hosting kazoo workshops during Council’s music pop up shows across the following dates:
- Saturday, 06 June 2026 | 11:30 AM - 01:30 PM at Albany Creek Library
- Tuesday, 09 June 2026 | 05:30 PM - 07:30 PM at Strathpine Library
- Saturday, 13 June 2026 | 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Burpengary Library
- Friday, 19 June 2026 | 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM at Redcliffe Library
- Saturday, 20 June 2026 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Caboolture Regional Art Gallery
- Saturday, 20 June 2026 | 01:00 PM - 02:30 PM at Bribie Island Seaside Museum
Workshop facilitator and music educator Danny Smith said everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun.
“The kazoo is often called the people’s instrument, because you don’t need to be a pro to get the hang of it and produce recognisable tunes.
“During the workshops, we’ll be covering kazoo basics before learning a medley of Bee Gees songs.
“Participants are welcome to bring their own kazoo, but we will have some available on a first come, first serve basis as well.
“Everyone is then encouraged to join the public flash mob on Sunday 21 June at Bee Gees Way, as we turn the laneway into a vibrant pop-‑up stage,” Mr Smith said.
Each June, City of Moreton Bay turns up the volume at our galleries, museums, libraries and beyond with a month-long music trail full of free events, live performances, jam sessions, workshops, and more.
