Lost, found or impounded animals

Found animals

If you find someone's pet or see animals wandering, contact Council and provide:

  • your name and contact details
  • description of animal
  • when and where it was found
  • registration tag number if possible.

Stray animals can be taken to the animal pound at Dakabin.

Impounded animals

Animals found wandering may be impounded. Impounded animals may incur charges and penalties. For a list of fees related to impounded animals, see fees and charges.

Lost animals

If your pet is missing, you should:

  • find out if your pet is impounded by contacting the City of Moreton Bay Animal Pound on (07) 3480 6450
  • search for your pet in places they may go, such as a nearby park
  • contact local vet clinics to see if your pet has come into their care
  • check local community Facebook groups. You can also post a photo of your missing pet and ask community members to keep an eye out for them.

Adopt a pet

The RSPCA adoption centre is located next to City of Moreton Bay's Animal Pound. The RSPCA is open Wednesday to Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Sundays 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Closed on public holidays.
