Council is leaving no stone unturned to ensure Caboolture West is done right from the beginning after the State Government last week announced phase one works would be accelerated through the new Growth Area program.

Council today (March 31) voted to approve a host of safeguards, including Planning Scheme amendments and opportunities for public feedback, to prepare the Neighbourhood Development Plan Area 1 (NDP1) for construction in the near future.

“Caboolture West will be the next big thing in southeast Queensland but we need to ensure we get the infrastructure and land use planning right before work starts, so I want to thank the Palaszczuk Government for their support for NDP1,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Caboolture West will ultimately be the size of a regional city; supporting 17,000 jobs and delivering many social benefits including new health and education centres, along with new sport and recreation facilities.

“This is exactly what’s needed to boost land supply and support growth, but before any work gets underway we want to ensure the planning is done right from the beginning.

“Today’s resolution to submit Planning Scheme amendments for NDP1 to the State Government will allow that planning to begin pending the State’s approval.

“Council has been working closely with the State Government to map out the first phase of construction within NDP1 so we can start preparing the area with key infrastructure.

“I encourage residents to have their say on the amendments and new supporting Planning Scheme Policy during an upcoming 20-business day notification period.

“Residents will be pleased to know that they will be able to have their input on a new name for Caboolture West during a separate consultation period, prior to a name being considered by Council and the State Government.

“We want to preserve the identity of existing suburbs in the surrounding region, while creating a new name that will capture the aspirations of the emerging new community.

“Council is working with industry experts Hoyne Australia on a Caboolture West Place Naming and Branding Project that will help inform that decision.

“All stakeholders including residents, indigenous groups and landowners will be consulted to ensure this name is something that everyone can be proud of, as we shape the future of our region for decades to come.”

“NDP1 will feature a host of housing options, a retail centre, a state primary school, a district sports park, local parks and large green spaces along the Caboolture River.

“These are the building blocks of a new community with a lifestyle to boast about.”

Council has a requirement to build 88,000 new homes over the next two decades under the State Government’s South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017.

Caboolture West will accommodate for roughly 30,000 homes over a 40-year period, with approximately 3,000 of those within NDP1.
