Netballers in Moreton Bay are set to score upgraded facilities, with construction to soon get underway on a clubhouse at Les Hughes Sports Complex.

Council has awarded a tender for the construction of the clubhouse at Bray Park.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the new building would meet the needs of local netball players and officials – now and well into the future.

“The construction of this new clubhouse for the Pine Rivers Netball Association will make netball more enjoyable and accessible for everyone involved in the sport,” he said.

“The new clubhouse will benefit the day-to-day operations of the association and help them to attract large events to the complex.

“We are looking forward to work getting underway on this much-needed facility for our netball community.”

Councillor Jim Moloney (Division 8) said the new netball clubhouse at Les Hughes Sports Complex would be a modern and accessible facility that delivered a better game-day experience for netballers and spectators alike.

“The construction of a new modern netball clubhouse will support the delivery of major carnivals, such as state age championships, in addition to the thousands of keen netballers who go there every week,” Cr Moloney said.

“I know the Pine Rivers Netball Association are thrilled the current ageing clubhouse will be replaced with a fit-for-purpose facility encompassing accessible player amenities, a canteen, player shelters and more carparking.”

The $7.87 million project includes funding from all three levels of government, including $4.098 million from the State Government through its GamesOn! Program, and a $1.5 million funding contribution from the Federal Government’s Investing in Our Communities (IiOC) program.

Construction of the clubhouse at Les Hughes Sports Complex is due for completion mid-2027, weather permitting.
