Keeping the ANZAC spirit alive in Samford

City of Moreton Bay is helping keep local ANZAC Day traditions strong, providing ongoing support to the Samford Returned and Services League (RSL) of Australia Sub-Branch.
Through a Council grant, the Samford RSL Sub-Branch will receive $6,000 per year for the next three years to assist with the delivery of ANZAC Day services and commemorative activities.
Council will also continue to provide in-kind assistance including help with permits and approvals, event promotion, and beautification works around key service locations.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the grant plays an important role in helping local organisations host meaningful civic events.
“ANZAC Day is one of the most significant and unifying days on our national calendar,” Mayor Flannery said.
“Council is proud to support local RSL Sub-Branches like Samford, who work tirelessly to bring our community together each year to remember and honour those who served.”
Division 11 Councillor Ellie Smith said Samford’s ANZAC Day services have become a cornerstone of local remembrance.
“The Samford RSL Sub-Branch has created a service that truly reflects the spirit of our community,” Cr Smith said.
“Council’s continued support helps ensure these commemorations remain part of our community’s fabric for years to come.”
Samford RSL Sub-Branch President, Peter Bates-Brownsword said the funding will make a real difference in planning and delivering future services.
“Each ANZAC Day we see the Samford community gather in large numbers to pay tribute to those who have served,” Peter said.
“This funding and support from Council allow us to continue providing the kind of meaningful ceremonies that bring people together and keep the ANZAC spirit alive.”
In addition to the annual funding, Council will apply a 3% increase to the multi-year grant to acknowledge the rising operational costs of community organisations.
