$1 million Flood Recovery Fund for Community & Sports Clubs
Published 04 March 2022
Moreton Bay Regional Council is ready to help community clubs recover as soon as this disaster passes, approving a $1 million Recovery Fund to help them get back on their feet following the historic 2022 floods.
Mayor Peter Flannery said local groups, clubs and not-for-profits will soon be able to access these through the grants section of Council’s website.
“Moreton Bay is well and truly into recovery mode now following some of the most horrific floods in our history, and we want to make sure our community gets back to normality as soon as possible,” he said.
“That’s why we’ve moved quickly to approve a new $1 million flood Recovery Fund which we are prioritising to bring online over the next couple of weeks.
“Community groups are the heart and soul of Moreton Bay and they’ll be needed by the community and their members for support and for key sport and recreation activities that make living in Moreton Bay so great.
“We’re working as fast as possible to finalise the details of the Recovery Fund and the different grant opportunities that will be available.
“Support will be provided for the immediate replacement of damaged equipment and consumables like balls, racquets, mowers and canteen stocks.
“Money will also be available for repair of damaged infrastructure, fixtures and fittings not already covered by insurance.
“Additionally, we will delay the closing date of the bi-annual community activities and infrastructure grants to give greater support to these groups affected by the floods.
“Further information regarding grant opportunities available under the Moreton Recovery Fund will be available on Council’s Grants and Funding webpage and Facebook page over the coming week.”
