Council's smooth move to roll out $21 million road resurfacing program

Council’s rolling out $21 million worth of road resurfacing works in the 2023-24 budget for smoother and safer trips right across the region.

Tenders were today awarded for the delivery of a three-phased program to deliver asphalt resurfacing and spray sealed surfacing treatment works to more than 120 local roads.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the program was part of Council’s $46.3 million investment in road maintenance projects in the 23-24 financial year.

“This program will see 50 kilometres of road resurfacing to improve the roads’ rideability and safety for motorists and cyclists,” Mayor Flannery said.

“These works also extend the life of the roads’ surfaces so we can minimise deteriorating conditions and recurrent maintenance that can become a big cost to ratepayers.

“We’re also delivering greener roads by using high recycled asphalt (RAP), crumbed rubber and recycled plastic asphalt materials where we can, which diverts waste from the landfill and into a new life as a road surface.

“Council is responsible for around 3,800 kilometres of road which is about the distance from Morayfield to Melbourne and back again.

“The region’s roads are one of our most critical and expensive assets, which is why Council continues to prioritise their maintenance.

“This investment will help make our streets smoother, safer and more enjoyable for everyone travelling in, out and throughout Moreton Bay.”
