- New shade sail structures for popular play area at The Mill
- Will keep families sun safe and playground equipment cooler
- Council is committed to investing in outdoor, family-friendly spaces
Families can now enjoy sunny days out this winter at The Mill Playground in Petrie, thanks to shade structure upgrades.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the improvements ensure that everyone can be sun safe while enjoying the popular outdoor space.
“As our community grows, so does the demand for safe and comfortable recreational areas, which is why we’ve invested in sun safety through additional shade structures over the play area at The Mill,” he said.
“We’re committed to creating enjoyable spaces where children of all ages and abilities can thrive and enjoy our beautiful outdoors all year round.
“These new shade sails not only make the space cooler but also create a comfortable and enjoyable environment for kids to play and for parents and carers to relax and watch.
“The Mill splash park and playground is a family favourite in our city with its barbecue, picnic, and play facilities, so it’s important that visitors can spend a whole day out here safely.”
Councillor Jim Moloney (Division 8) said the new upgrades were driven by community feedback and designed to help families enjoy the playground comfortably throughout the year.
“We saw an opportunity to improve the experience by installing more shade sails, particularly over the flying fox and adventure play swing areas, to keep children safer from the sun and the equipment cooler during summer,” he said.
“Whether it’s a warm winter afternoon or a sunny summer day, families can extend their weekend quality time at the playground with greater peace of mind about sun safety.”
These upgrades are part of Council’s ongoing investment in creating vibrant, family-friendly spaces across the City of Moreton Bay.
