Thrashers to be wowed with new skate parks on-deck in Moreton Bay

Skaters, scooters, BMX riders and rollerbladers will soon be able to drop-in at two newly refurbished skate parks at Morayfield and Albany Creek thanks to Moreton Bay Council’s Skate Park Renewal Program.
By mid-2024 the old skate parks at Albany Creek’s Old Northern Road and Morayfield’s Sheep Station Creek Park will be demolished and re-built with new designs that have been created with input from the community.
Mayor Peter Flannery said just like roads and pavements, it was important to ensure Moreton Bay’s active infrastructure keeps up with the times.
“We know locals love the outdoors, and we want to encourage even more people in our region to get out and enjoy their skateboards, scooters, BMX and rollerblades,” he said.
“When complete, these parks will be a gold-medal standard for this growing sport and hopefully some future champions from the Moreton Bay region.
“Which is important on the path to the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics, because these kinds of upgrades might just be what inspires the next generation of athletes in our region.”
Works in Morayfield are planned to commence in October 2023, Albany Creek is planned to commence January 2024, and both are expected to be complete by mid-2024.
Cr Adam Hain, Division 3, said the parks would be a real boost for the region.
“We’re taking inspiration from the Deception Bay Skate Park, where Council invested $1.5million into upgrades, and other leading skate parks in Queensland to bring Morayfield back into the top ranked parks in the state,” he said.
“We’re also keeping jobs and money in the region, using local labour and supplies wherever we can during the construction phases, in line with our local area commitment.
“This upgrade is just one way Council is making it easier for our communities to make healthy and active lifestyle choices.
“Council provides a diverse program of free and affordable sport, recreation and wellness activities that support healthier lifestyles for people of all ages.
“And our parks, playgrounds, sports, arts and culture all contribute to our community’s well-being, promoting a sense of vibrancy in our region.”
