Put your dancing shoes on, grab a partner, and get yourself to the “Dancing in the Cool” event at the Woodford Memorial Hall tomorrow night.

This event scored a $2,000 boost at Wednesday’s Council meeting, Mayor Peter Flannery acknowledged Cr Tony Latter (Div 12) for proposing this discretionary funding support for the Woodford Lions Club to host the event.

“The Lions Club and other volunteer-based community groups are the heart and soul of our communities across Moreton Bay,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Council is able to allocate discretionary funding to support events run by community groups or to help them purchase equipment and make renovations to their clubhouses.

“It’s our way of showing that no cause is too big or small for Council, because it’s events like this that have the biggest impact on our individual communities.”

Cr Tony Latter (Div 12) said this $2,000 was in addition to the $2,000 already allocated to help with entertainment, lanterns, advertising and portable toilets for a street parade event.

“Woodford will be red hot this Saturday for ‘Dancing in the Cool’ with plenty of great live music by Toby Taylor and The Country Boys,” Cr Latter said.

“This event first came together in last year thanks to the Woodford Lions Club, who do amazing work in our community from supporting our local schools, Men’s Shed, the night markets and so much more.

“The inaugural event was a great pick me up for the entire community after years of covid and the devastating 2022 floods - with roughly 200 people attending.

“This is just one way we as a Council can give back to the Lions Clubs for putting on a great night for the community and all the work they do.”

This financial year Council has dedicated $275,000 of financial support to local community groups via its Discretionary Funds Policy.

‘Dancing in the Cool’ is on Saturday 3 June from 7pm -  11pm (doors open at 6.15pm) at the Woodford Memorial Hall.
