Changing Places

Changing Places provide suitable facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. 

They are provided in key public locations and offer safe, hygienic and dignified access to public toilets for people with high support needs and their carers. 

They contain specialised equipment such as:

• a height-adjustable adult change table
• a ceiling hoist
• a peninsular toilet
• a privacy screen 
• a shower (optional).

Changing Places assist people with high support needs enabling them to be more active and engaged in their local community. Having access to these facilities means they can go out with friends, attend a public event or exhibition, or even go for a swim at their local pool without worrying about how they will get to the toilet.

To date, Council has installed two Changing Places within the region:

• South Pine Sports Centre; and
• Albany Creek Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
