The keys have been handed over for City of Moreton Bay’s new $6.7 million Peninsula Support Hub, marking the completion of this highly anticipated and much needed facility.

The hub is home to The Breakfast Club and The Salvation Army, offering case management, housing referrals, meal services, laundry and shower facilities, and social connection in a welcoming and respectful space.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said seeing the facility complete was another huge step in helping the City’s most vulnerable access critical housing and support services.

“The Peninsula Support Hub has been years in the making, and we’ve poured everything into getting it right. From the layout of the building to its convenient and central location, each decision was made in close consultation with tenants The Breakfast Club and The Salvation Army to ensure it suits their services and supports people doing it tough in one safe, purpose-built place.

“Council invested $3.7 million into this facility with a further investment of $3 million from the State Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program (SEQCSP). We’re proud to work hand in hand with the State Government and tenants to make warm meals, laundry facilities, connection to specialist health and housing assistance available to those in our community who need it most.

“As well as building the Peninsula Support Hub, we’re picking up the heavy lifting on operating costs by offering a $1-a-year lease, so The Breakfast Club and The Salvation Army can focus on supporting our community’s most vulnerable instead of stressing about how to keep the doors open.

“Council has invested millions to support people experiencing homelessness by funding this facility, waiving development fees and infrastructure charges in 15 suburbs for affordable and social housing, and providing Council land to housing providers like Bric Housing and Coast2Bay Housing Group. We’re delivering long-term sustainable solutions to provide a safe space for people at risk of becoming homeless to receive support,” Mayor Flannery concluded.

Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, said it was heartening to see such strong community partnerships delivering support where it’s needed most.

“As a Patron of The Salvation Army, I’ve seen firsthand the critical role they play in supporting Queenslanders in crisis. Facilities like the Peninsula Support Hub reflect the compassion and commitment of our communities, working together to ensure every Queenslander has access to dignity, support and hope,” Her Excellency said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie, is proud to partner with City of Moreton Bay to help deliver the Peninsula Support Hub.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders and this hub will provide critical wrap-around support services for the most vulnerable in our community,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“This is exactly the kind of project our investment is meant to support; a practical, community-led solution that delivers real help to people in need.

“Partnering with City of Moreton Bay on this facility means more Queenslanders will have access to the right support, in the right place, at the time they need it most.

Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley said the hub will have a meaningful impact on locals doing it tough.

“The opening of the Peninsula Support Hub is a long-awaited and much needed milestone for Redcliffe and City of Moreton Bay. This hub means people in crisis won’t have to travel far or face complicated systems to get support, they’ll be able to access meals, housing referrals, case management and more, all under the one roof.”

Councillor Karl Winchester (Division 6) said the Peninsula Support Hub represents years of dedication and determination from the community to support those in vulnerable housing situations.

“It has taken a lot of hard work to get this facility planned effectively and off the ground, but the result is something our whole community can be proud of. Having all these services in one central location makes a huge difference for people doing it tough because they don’t have to navigate the system alone and can access the wrap-around support they need in one safe and supportive space,” Councillor Winchester said.

Chairperson of not-for-profit organisation, The Breakfast Club, Michelle Gilchrist, said the Support Hub was a milestone for the community.

"It's incredible to see this facility open and finally have a space designed specifically for the people we support. Thanks to Council's $1-a-year lease and the purpose-built building, we can focus fully on delivering vital support, from meals in our new commercial grade kitchen to essential services and connection, without the constant worry of operational costs. This hub will make a real difference in the lives of those in need of our services, and we are proud to play a part in it."

Beena Saju, Regional Manager QLD Homelessness, The Salvation Army said she was grateful to see such strong commitment from City of Moreton Bay and the Queensland Government.

“We’re truly encouraged by the dedication shown to this project, which will provide a safe and welcoming space for people facing hardship. This facility reflects a shared commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our community, and we’re proud to be part of a partnership that puts real resources behind making a difference.”

The Peninsula Support Hub will officially open for services on Monday 28th July, with The Salvation Army commencing operations soon from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, and The Breakfast Club operating Monday, Wednesday & Friday 7am to 8am, Tuesday & Thursday 9am to 1pm & 4pm to 5:30pm.
