A new wave of waterfront facilities is on the way in City of Moreton Bay, with construction of the Suttons Beach Pavilion officially kicking off.

A sod-turn ceremony was held for the project on Friday, 27 February to mark the beginning of the build.

The project includes the new pavilion structure and extensive landscaping plus public amenities which include accessible toilets, accessible showers and a Changing Places facility. The building will showcase enhanced shade features and feature a rooftop space and a public viewing deck with views out to the ocean.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said it was exciting to see work underway at the site.

“It’s fantastic that construction has begun on this highly anticipated project that will return the site to an iconic destination the community can enjoy for generations to come,” he said.

“With a vibrant hospitality scene and stunning beachfront location, the new Suttons Beach Pavilion will be a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

"We’re looking forward to this seaside precinct opening in mid-2027, weather permitting, and the flow-on benefits it will deliver for employment, economic development and tourism in City of Moreton Bay.”

The community will be able to enjoy new indoor and outdoor food and beverage options at the site when it opens, subject to the outcome of a separate tender process.

The project will also utilise elements of the old pavilion, with the 1998 rotunda being relocated to a new spot to provide an additional shaded seating option. Bricks from the old structure will also be repurposed for landscaping at the site.

The $19.5 million Suttons Beach Pavilion Redevelopment Project is being delivered as part of the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund, a commitment under the SEQ City Deal. The Deal is a partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ) that aims to deliver projects of long-lasting benefits to SEQ, including City of Moreton Bay.

The Australian Government and Queensland Government are contributing a combined $12.1 million to the Suttons Beach Pavilion Redevelopment Project. Council will contribute $7.4 million to the project.

Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer MP said the sod-turn was a significant moment for the community.

“We’re seeing real progress on a project that will transform Suttons Beach into a vibrant, accessible and welcoming waterfront destination,” she said.

“The Australian Government is proud to be supporting this project to deliver long-lasting infrastructure that supports local jobs, strengthens tourism, and creates beautiful public spaces for locals to enjoy.

“The new pavilion and upgraded amenities will ensure Suttons Beach remains an iconic gathering place for generations, while also boosting local businesses and economic activity across the Peninsula.”

Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley MP said the revitalisation was a significant project for the community.

“Suttons Beach Pavilion has been an iconic site for Redcliffe locals and visitors for many decades,” she said.

“This is an important milestone - seeing the Pavilion come back to life to create a modern venue for all to enjoy.”

Councillor Karl Winchester (Division 6) said it was an exciting time for locals eagerly awaiting the opening of the Suttons Beach Pavilion.

“Having advocated, alongside my Council colleagues, for the building of a new Suttons Beach Pavilion every step of the way, it’s great to see construction kick-off at Suttons.”

“The Pavilion will be a landmark site, and I can’t wait to see people grab a coffee or enjoy a meal on our beautiful beachfront.”

The new pavilion is scheduled to open in mid-2027.
