City of Moreton Bay is contributing $700,000 to Deception Bay Branch Little Athletics Centre Inc. to upgrade and revamp the track and field facilities at Zammit Oval in Deception Bay.
The major facility upgrade is being funded by contributions from City of Moreton Bay’s City Project Grant, Queensland Government ($1,880,938) and Australian Government ($1,500,000), and is anticipated to increase participation and the quality of athletics at the Oval.
Mayor Peter Flannery is proud to support the community by upgrading and improving Zammit Oval.
“We’re excited to be supporting Deception Bay Little Athletics and for the upgrades to begin. It’s a priority for us to invest in infrastructure projects that will benefit and give opportunities to our community particularly in the runway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“In the lead up to Brisbane 2032, we want to inspire young athletes to aim big, improve their skills, or to simply give athletics a go. The facility will allow our community to do just that and will increase the quality and safety of athletics programs for Deception Bay Little Athletics and others using the facility.
“I’d also like to acknowledge Luke Howarth and Chris Whiting MP who have supported this project.
“I can’t wait for the upgraded facility to be open for the community members to enjoy and to encourage them to give athletics a go.”
Councillor Mark Booth (Division 2) is thrilled Council is giving back to the community in a meaningful way through the City Project Grant.
“We’re on the edge of our seats, eager to see the positive impact this upgrade will have on Little Athletics and wider community.
“This funding will allow us to make a contribution towards the upgrades which will support the delivery of sport and athletic opportunities within City of Moreton Bay.
“The upgrades will include benefits for both track and field athletes with highlights including a 400m eight-lane grass athletics track, a two-lane synthetic long jump and triple jump runway, a turf discus circle and cage, and a turf javelin runway.
“We have great homegrown talent in our City, like Olympic sprinter Ella Conolly, who first trained here and is someone our young people can look up to.”
