Statement in relation to social media posts

Published 26 September 2025

City of Moreton Bay has become aware of social media posts by Nourish Street and the Northwest Community Group that are factually incorrect.

These posts pertain to the tragic death of a homeless person in Redcliffe.

Homeless volunteers from the newly constructed Peninsula Support Hub were the first responders to the tragedy and are being provided counselling assistance.

The linking of the tragic death, by the Northwest Community Group and Nourish Street to these homeless outreach services is a step too far by these groups, it is wrong and must be corrected.

The further linking of council compliance activities with deliberate misinformation is also unacceptable and not related to the tragedy earlier this week.

The City of Moreton Bay homeless response works hand in hand with the State Government as well as recognised, respected and professional organisations. The ongoing misinformation, lack of professionalism and politicisation of our homeless community by Nourish Street and the Northwest Community Group must be called out. These actions do not help our vulnerable community.

Individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness are encouraged to contact the Homeless Hotline on 1800 474 753 for a free 24/7 service providing info on accommodation, meals, showers and support.
