  • City of Moreton Bay has today adopted a new master plan for James Drysdale Reserve.
  • It will deliver a flagship sport and recreation hub at Bunya, in response to population growth and rising demand for quality sport and recreation facilities.
  • The long-term vision will be delivered in stages.

City of Moreton Bay has today adopted a new master plan for James Drysdale Reserve, building on its strong legacy as a much-loved sporting and community precinct to deliver an even more vibrant hub for the growing community at the southern end of City of Moreton Bay.

The long-‑term vision, shaped over several years in close collaboration with local sports clubs, volunteer groups and community organisations, sets a clear path for staged improvements across the 29ha reserve.

This community driven process has ensured the master plan reflects the needs of local users today, while creating space for future opportunities as the Hills District and Albany Creek communities continue to expand.

The plan also makes better use of available land to provide a broader mix of sport, recreation and community activities, while enhancing existing facilities that clubs have helped nurture over decades. This reflects Council’s wider approach of creating adaptable precincts that support diverse community uses and emerging recreation trends.

The James Drysdale Reserve Master Plan features new facilities including a multi-level carpark with netball and multi-purpose courts, shared clubhouses, natural turf athletics track and hockey field, long jump/triple jump pit, natural turf multi-purpose field, large open spaces with play area and outdoor fitness equipment, event lawn space, terraced spectator seating, clubhouses for football and baseball, and further junior baseball diamonds.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said with more people moving to our City every week, Council knows demand for quality sport and recreation facilities is only going to increase in the years ahead.

“This master plan is an example of how we’re planning ahead to meet this challenge.

“We know sport and recreation hubs, like this one, are intergenerational, bringing the community together while supporting increasingly diverse health, wellbeing. They also foster a lifelong love of sport among our youngest athletes.

“That’s why we’ve developed a long-term plan to ensure James Drysdale Reserve provides the opportunities they need.”

Councillor Matt Constance (Division 10) said he was looking forward to seeing the master plan delivered in the years ahead.

“This vision gives clubs, players and residents certainty, and is something I’m really excited about,” Cr Constance said.

“I know how important James Drysdale Reserve is to my community. This master plan takes it to the next level, ensuring it will be a sporting and community hub for generations to come.

“The James Drysdale Reserve Master Plan has also been designed to complement and enable broader precinct planning across the Hills District.

“This includes future works at nearby Leslie Patrick Park and the 303 Dawson Parade site, a key location for emerging community facility planning.

“Together, these linked projects will help create a network of integrated community spaces that serve local families, clubs and volunteer groups for decades ahead.”
