City of Moreton Bay will name radio station 99.7FM’s home at Redcliffe after stalwart Don Gailer, recognising his contribution to the organisation and broader community.

Mr Gailer, a long-term Redcliffe local, has been a vital part of the community radio station for the past 19 years. He has played a key role in 99.7FM’s success and in developing a training program for community members wanting to become radio announcers.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the decision to name the station’s base at 75 Anzac Avenue, Redcliffe, the Don Gailer Building followed a request to Council and subsequent community consultation from 12 November to 9 December 2025.

“Don Gailer has played a significant role in 99.7FM’s history and we are pleased to acknowledge his impact in this way,” he said.

“He has served four terms as President and, under his leadership, the station has supported community campaigns such as Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital, Rockin 4 the Homeless, Brisbane Convoy for Kids and an annual Christmas Toy Appeal.

“His unwavering commitment, volunteerism and generous support have been instrumental in the station’s ongoing success and its positive impact on the wider community.

“He has also had a hand in mentoring countless volunteers, many of whom have gone on to careers in commercial radio.”

Councillor Karl Winchester (Division 6) also acknowledged Mr Gailer’s impact, which has been felt beyond the volunteer-run radio station’s walls.

“Don is a well-respected member of the Redcliffe Peninsula community, whose contribution has made a real difference for the best part of 20 years,” he said.

“Naming 99.7FM’s home after him is a fitting tribute to his tireless efforts, which continue to inspire those around him.”

Signage will be updated and a history board installed, explaining Mr Gailer’s contribution.
