Summer fun is just around the corner for City of Moreton Bay’s youngsters, as they get ready to dive into a host of exciting activities these school holidays.
Parents will be spoiled for choice with books, bots, bugs and beat making just a fraction of what’s on offer for kids and teens over the break.
“With dozens of free activities on offer these school holidays, there’s no shortage of boredom busters to keep the kids entertained,” City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said.
“Activities like these play an important role in keeping our young people engaged and active in our community.”
Storytime, a popular year-round staple in the City’s libraries that introduces the world of reading for two to five-year-olds, will take on a festive theme in December.
“Storytime at City of Moreton Bay Libraries continues to be a popular activity for families throughout the year and is an excellent opportunity for children to develop a love of reading,” Mayor Flannery said.
“With the festive season now upon us, why not gather the family for one of our special Storytime sessions filled with classic Christmas tales and songs that are sure to bring some holiday cheer.”
While the pages are turning on Christmas tales, Moreton Bay’s libraries will also be cooking up a storm with airfryer cookie baking classes for children between five and 11 years.
Adding a dash of dazzle will be a magic show when Super Steph sparkles with her fairy and pirate-themed magic.
Best suited to families with children aged 8 and under, step into a world of wonder and laughs, perfect for inspiring imagination in young minds.
Offering hands-on fun and learning through creative exploration are Imaginariums, which offer people of all ages the ability to let their imaginations run wild in a variety of interactive themed settings at Bribie Island Seaside Museum, Pine Rivers Heritage Museum and Redcliffe Museum.
“With Christmas Eve Storytime, LEGO building, 3D printing, comedy puppet shows, terrarium classes and much, much more, there truly is something for everyone,” Mayor Flannery said.
Further north, Bribie Island Seaside Museum is planning a splash of excitement as Ocean Life Education hosts a hand-on workshop allowing youngsters to touch and explore real sea creatures, discover wild ocean facts, meet Ole the ocean-cleaning turtle and much more.
And speaking of water, Moreton Bay’s pools are expecting a bumper summer season as the mercury rises.
Recent data has revealed residents are lapping up the City’s aquatic and leisure centres, with 1,578,474 visits last financial year – an increase of 11.28 per cent in just two years.
Mayor Flannery urged families to take advantage of longer opening hours at each of the City’s 14 pools over the summer break.
“Swimming is not only beneficial for physical and mental wellbeing, but a fun and affordable activity,” he said.
“It’s also a vital skill for staying safe around water, and there are learn-to-swim programs available at our pool facilities.”
Providing a fitness kick for locals outdoors is the City’s Healthy and Active Moreton Program, with activities like Little N Active Playtime, soccer, tai chi and yoga offering fun for the whole family.
“Whether you’re indoors or outside, I would encourage all local families to make the most of what our City has to offer over the summer break,” Mayor Flannery said.
“You won’t be disappointed.”
