Have Your Say: New Suttons Beach Building Survey

The time has come to have your say on what you want a new building at the Suttons Beach waterfront precinct to look like.

Mayor Peter Flannery said Council wants the community to have a say on the style of any new structure before commencing the design process.

“Jump online and let us know what you want to see there,” he said.

“We’re asking locals to let us know if they want an Art Deco look from the era when the original 1930s Pavilion was built, that might have geometric detailing, decorative windows and potentially even parapets and spires.

“Or a more contemporary style with open floor planning, verandas, and a sleek, minimalist appearance.

“You can also share your views on other design elements and how we can celebrate the history and community stories that connect us to the site.

“Tell us how we can enhance your experience at Suttons Beach.

“Tell us whether you want to sit and eat in, or be able to take away, or both?

“The only thing we know at this point is that the new structure will be two-storeys, and I want to thank my Council colleagues for voting to support that amendment last week.

“I know locals see the fenced-off building as an eyesore, so we are working on the demolition process and getting the necessary approvals to remove the old buildings while consultation and a detailed business case are underway for a new building. It’s important to get this started, so our community isn’t left in limbo.

“Then there’s just the question of budget - so we will be approaching the state and federal governments to enter a tripartite financing agreement.

“If each level of government contributes then I think we will be able to build something truly iconic here, for the next generations to create their own enduring memories of Suttons Beach Park.”

Community consultation will be conducted from March 21 to April 16 to ensure locals have their say on the style and design of any new building.
