Waste Reminder: Take Your Bins Out The Night Before

Bin collection reminder

Moreton Bay residents are being reminded that garbage bins always need to be placed out for collection before 6:00 AM on collection day.

Mayor Flannery said this has always been the practice in Moreton Bay Regional Council and is the common practice across most Local Government Areas in Australia.

“Resident in a few suburbs have recently reported their bins being missed, which may be because drivers have come through at a different time of day,” he said.

“Our bin collection contractor Cleanaway needs to collect 45,000 bins each day which is why they need the 6:00am to 6:00pm window to ensure there’s enough time to get around our region.

“So even if you’re used to trucks coming by at roughly the same time on your collection day, the exact collection during the day can change for a range of reasons.

“That could be staff rostering, vehicle maintenance, road works or closures or even bad weather, which is why we say the easiest thing to do is take your bins out the night before your collection day.

“We don’t want anyone getting caught out, especially during the busy Christmas season, so this is a timely reminder.

“If your bin is missed, you can submit a form online for Cleanaway to come back but remember that a service is not actually considered 'missed' until after 6:00pm on your collection day.”

Council provides a weekly general waste and fortnightly recycling collection service via our contractor Cleanaway, to properties within the defined waste collection area.
