Celebrate World Turtle Day at Kumbartcho Sanctuary! You will have the chance to meet some freshwater turtles and other wildlife thanks to Geckoes Wildlife. 

You will also find out fun turtle facts. Did you know:

  • Australia is home to 23 freshwater turtle species and six sea turtle species.
  • The Broad-shelled River turtle is the largest Australian freshwater turtle, their shell can measure up to 50 centimetres.
  • Sea turtles are even bigger! The Leatherback turtle’s shell can be up to 170 centimetres and they weigh can weigh up to 500 kilograms.

Come along and learn even more about our local turtles and wildlife. Find out how you can help protect and conserve Australian turtle populations.

Take a rainforest walk around the sanctuary while you are there, and you may even be lucky enough to spot some local freshwater turtles in the dam.
