A thriving local economy is good for everyone. It creates jobs, supports businesses and helps deliver great quality of life for residents.
A thriving City of Moreton Bay
Imagine a city where you can work close to home, using reliable and frequent public transport to get there.
We want to create a city where people have money in their pockets and somewhere to spend it, close to home. That means creating a broad range of jobs and more of them, along with places to shop, eat out, unwind and play.
As Moreton Bay grows, we need to support our growing economy:
- We want to create a city that offers a broad range of jobs so people can work close to home and have money to spend locally.
- The Queensland Government has told us we need to deliver commercial and industrial areas that will create jobs.
- We need roads, public transport, digital connectivity and services. These support economic growth and make our city a better place to live and work.
- We need to strengthen local businesses and supply chains to keep them resilient.
- Tourism will bring jobs and entertainment for locals in the lead-up to and long after the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- A thriving local economy is good for everyone. This creates jobs, supports businesses and helps deliver great quality of life.

As part of planning for our future city, we will very shortly be seeking early input into a new planning scheme. The planning scheme is one of the tools we used to shape how land can be used in City of Moreton Bay.

Creating jobs and opportunities
The Queensland Government has told us we need to deliver commercial and industrial areas. These will create jobs as part of a broader plan for South East Queensland. We need to plan for this in a way that strengthens local businesses and supply chains so they are resilient.
Key factors are digital connectivity, along with better roads and public transport infrastructure. These will link local workers with employment hubs. We also need services to grow our economy and make our city an even greater place to live and work.
Jobs will also be created as we expand our tourism industry through world-class events, our natural assets, and by providing precincts for locals and visitors to enjoy. Tourism will bring jobs and entertainment for locals in the lead-up to and long after the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Our city planning also needs to factor in industries and jobs that have not yet been created so we can grab those opportunities when they emerge.

Our planning scheme is one of the tools we use to manage development, guide how land can be used and serviced. We’ll be developing a new Planning Scheme and want you to join us on the journey.
