No need to spend a packet this school holidays! City of Moreton Bay has a bunch of free and low-cost school holiday activities for everyone to enjoy this summer.

From craft workshops and active adventures, to kids’ clubs and fun family days out - Mayor Peter Flannery said there's something to keep the whole family entertained over the break.

“Take some time out to explore our great city with affordable activities in Council’s specialty venues, waterways, parks and playgrounds,” he said.

“Bookings for our Active Holidays program, running from January 8-21, are now open.

“Featuring a range of adventure, sport and nature activities, kids and teens (3 to 17 years) can learn to surf, cook camp food, and challenge themselves on the high ropes - all under the watchful eye of qualified and experienced providers.

“Our local parks will host skateboarding clinics, hip hop workshops and sports activities such as AFL and golf, so there’s sure to be something happening near you.

“And the fun doesn’t stop there, there’s even more to see and do at out galleries, museums, libraries, environmental centres and sporting facilities.

Here are our top five boredom-busting summer school holiday events and activities on offer across Moreton Bay.

  1. Turn up the fun with Active Holidays
    Make these holidays healthier and more active with a huge range a free and low-cost activities designed to get kids moving. Bookings are now open.

  2. Visit our galleries and museums for an extraordinary day out
    Beat the heat and cool off at one of our six galleries or museums featuring free exhibitions. See the world through the eyes of local artist Martin Edge as the Pine Rivers Art Gallery is transformed into an inclusive, playful, sensory experience everyone will enjoy in All the best, from Martin Edge. Or take a day trip to Bribie and discover all the creative wonders of migratory shorebirds at Bribie Island Seaside Museum’s latest exhibition Taking Flight.

  3. Rediscover your love of reading at our libraries

    Moreton Bay Libraries Summer Reading Club is now open to all ages, sign up for your chance to win fantastic prizes at any of our 10 library locations near you. Plus you can drop-in to our libraries for free fantastic holiday programs like Messy Play, Magical Exploratorium, Minecraft Club, LEGO creations and so much more!

  4. Become an Agent of Discovery
    Get involved with Agents of Discovery, a free educational mobile gaming app designed to get kids engaged with the natural world around us. Explore missions at our environmental centres at Kumbartcho and CREEC as well as Kakadu Beach. Kids can also enjoy free daily craft activities and workshops at CREEC during the summer holidays.

  5. Practice your skills at Morayfield Sport and Events Centre
    Casual shoot around sports sessions are available for pickleball, badminton, table tennis, basketball and volleyball all through the holidays. Its only $5 per person, equipment can also be rented for $5 per item. Contact the centre for available sessions and book in today.
