Parking permits: On-street parking management

There are 4 different types of parking permits available in the Moreton Bay Region:

To apply for a parking permit, you will need to submit an application with accompanying documents.

Resident parking permit

To be eligible for a resident permit:

  • you must have a driver licence listed to an address in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area. You will need to provide a copy of your driver licence (front and back) as proof of residence. The licence:
    • must be in the same name of person applying for the permit
    • have the same address provided on the application.
  • your permit must be for an area with a signed time area of one hour or more.

You can nominate one registered car or motorbike for a permit. Permits are valid until 30 September each year. To renew your permit, submit a new application.

Resident parking permits will not be issued to:

  • trailers, boats, caravans, buses
  • heavy and long vehicles
  • unregistered vehicles 
  • visiting contractors who do not live at the address
  • non-resident landlords
  • people who do not live at the address full-time.

Redcliffe Peninsula rail line on-street parking management

If you live in certain areas along the Redcliffe Peninsula rail line, you could be eligible for a free resident parking permit. View the permit-eligible property maps to see if your residence is eligible for a free resident permit:

This permit allows you to park your nominated vehicle on your street in a 5P zone longer than five hours.

Community service organisation parking permit

Community service organisations can apply for parking permit for a vehicle:

  • that would be parked in an area with a signed time area of one hour or more
  • that would be parked on a section of road where it would not cause significant disruption to traffic either on the road or in the area
  • that is used to carry out the work of the organisation. This permit is not for parking close to the organisation. It does not provide exclusive use of a parking space or area.

You can nominate one registered car or motorbike for a permit. Council reserves the right to limit the number of approvals issued to an organisation.

Permits are valid until 30 September each year. To renew your permit, submit a new application.

To apply, you will need to provide:

  1. a copy of your driver licence (front and back)
  2. a supporting letter from an authorised representative on your organisation’s letterhead detailing how the parking is required to achieve the objectives of the organisation
  3. proof of current not-for-profit organisation status if applicable (required for fee exemption).

Temporary or special events parking permit

Temporary or special events parking permits can be issued to a person, employee or representative of a business, charity or organisation running an event if:

  • the vehicle would be parked on a section of road where it would not cause significant disruption to traffic either on the road or in the area
  • the permit is used in the way it is described on the application.
  • the vehicle is used to carry out work for the event. This permit is not for parking close to an event.

You can nominate one registered car or motorbike for a permit. Council reserves the right to limit the number of approvals issued.

To apply, you will need to provide:

  1. a copy of your driver licence (front and back)
  2. a supporting document or letter from the event organiser detailing the reasons for the permit application
  3. proof of current not-for-profit organisation status if applicable (required for fee exemption).

Work zone parking permit

A work zone parking permit may be issued for part of a road immediately next to a proposed building or construction site. The following must both apply:

  • the proposed building or construction works are lawful
  • it is not reasonably practical for all work activities involving vehicle loading or unloading to be confined within the site.

This permit type is not for parking approval in relation to developments undertaken with a Development Approval (DA). Parking and vehicle use should be detailed in the DA.

This permit is issued for a specified timeframe of no more than 14 days.

To apply for a work zone permit, you will need to provide:

  1. a copy of your licence (front and back)
  2. a supporting letter from the authorised building or construction works company, detailing the nature of the building or construction works and why it is not practical for all work activities be confined within the work site
  3. a map of the part of road or area that identifies the requested location for the permit.

How to apply

You need to include all the information and any accompanying documents for us to process your application.

Council will contact you for payment of the application fee if it applies.

Replace or cancel your permit

To replace your permit due to loss or damage, submit a new application.

Advise Council if you no longer require your parking permit due to either:

  • no longer being the owner/occupier of the property nominated on the permit
  • no longer being the registered owner of the vehicle nominated on the permit.

Permit conditions

  • The parking permit:
    • is the responsibility of the applicant and must match the registration details of the vehicle to be valid
    • must be clearly displayed kerb-side and unobstructed on the dashboard of the registered vehicle at all times
    • must not be reproduced, copied, defaced, altered or destroyed
    • is valid until the date of expiry, unless withdrawn by Council, and is non-transferable
    • does not guarantee an on-street parking space at any time
    • is subject to other such conditions that may be imposed by Council
    • does not allow a vehicle to park illegally
  • Misuse may result in this permit being withdrawn or deemed invalid.
  • Penalties for misuse may apply.
  • The parking permit is only valid for the nominated vehicle to park longer than permitted in nominated signed parking area, 1P or greater.
