The Dolphins are bringing the NRL to Moreton Bay so Council’s taking its first Community Council Meeting of the year to the Redcliffe Leagues Club to build the momentum ahead of their history-making debut season.

Mayor Peter Flannery said fans will get a chance to score tickets to see The Dolphins in action this season as well as an exclusive presentation from Dolphins CEO Terry Reader at the upcoming Community Council Meeting.

“Council has a massive fixture of Community Council Meetings lined up for 2023 and to kick things off with a bang we’re heading to Redcliffe for the start of the NRL season when our very own Dolphins will take the national spotlight for the first time as the 17th team,” he said.

“The whole of Moreton Bay will be turning red and white in support of the Dolphins’ in what will be a monumental occasion for Redcliffe and the region as a whole.

But it won’t just be footy fans who’ll be pumped for the start of the season, because the successful bid will be worth at least $74 million to our local Moreton Bay economy every year through new business and tourism.

“This is why we campaigned so hard for The Dolphins to get the 17th NRL licence and why we invested a record $8.5 million into getting Kayo Stadium NRL ready.”

Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) said there’ll be plenty to cheer about across the Peninsula too with millions of dollars being invested into local sports facilities, infrastructure upgrades, playground and park improvements, and plenty more.

“The Dolphins aren’t the only sports club getting the Moreton Bay Regional Council treatment with KR Benson Park, Talobilla Park, Bradley park, Ray Frawley Fields and Pelican Park all receiving upgrades to raise the standard across our local facilities,” he said.

“This will be a huge year for the Peninsula after the past few years we’ve had and there’s no better way to kick things off than to take the travelling Council to Redcliffe.

“I hope to see as many locals down at the Redcliffe Leagues Club on March 1 to see Council in the flesh.”

Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said it was a great opportunity to book into a one-on-one session with the Mayor or councillors.

“Community consultation is one of the key ingredients to a healthy democracy which is why we can’t wait to have one-on-one meetings with residents to discuss local issues or just have a chat,” she said.

“There are limited spaces available so please apply through Council’s website by February 9 to get yourself a position, or alternatively you can request to present a Community Comment to the Council chambers.”
