City of Moreton Bay has struck gold at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Queensland & Northern Territory Awards, which celebrate the very best in skills, planning, and engineering across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The City took home the top prize for its Peninsula Support Hub project and was also recognised with nominations for the Reconstruction of Essential Public Assets (REPA) Landslip Repairs project while Senior Project Manager Joel Clotas was nominated for Public Works Professional of the Year.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the win is recognition of the calibre and commitment of Council’s teams.

“It’s an honour for City of Moreton Bay’s Peninsula Support Hub to take out the top spot in the Institute of Public Works Engineering Queensland & Northern Territory Excellence Awards category for projects between $5 million and $10 million,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Our planners, engineers and project managers work diligently to deliver the best outcomes for our community, and this award recognises them as among the very best in Queensland.

“This win is especially meaningful as the hub was developed in response to a growing need for coordinated support services and is now home to The Breakfast Club and The Salvation Army.

“We’re proud not only to have the Peninsula Support Hub take out the win, but also to see both the City of Moreton Bay REPA Landslip Repairs project and Senior Project Manager Joel Clotas recognised as finalists. Joel’s nomination for Public Works Professional of the Year highlights the exceptional talent, leadership, and dedication within our organisation.”

Councillor Karl Winchester (Division 6) said the Peninsula Support Hub is setting a new standard for support.

“This is the first facility of its kind in Queensland and was designed in collaboration with the tenants to deliver long-term, sustainable support for those doing it tough and people experiencing homelessness in our community,” Councillor Winchester said.

“The goal has always been to improve access to services, enhance community wellbeing, and provide life-changing support in a safe space, and our project teams have delivered exactly that.”

Chairperson of not-for-profit organisation, The Breakfast Club, Michelle Gilchrist, said the Peninsula Support Hub’s design supports essential services and strengthens community connection.

“We’re all settled into our purpose-built facility and commercial grade kitchen, and it means we can focus all our energy on helping people.”

Council staff have worked closely with local organisations to bring the purpose-built facility to life, an achievement now recognised as the best of its kind in Queensland.

The Peninsula Support Hub is open for services with The Salvation Army operating from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and The Breakfast Club operating Monday, Wednesday & Friday 7am to 8am, Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 5:30pm.
