Council is proud to partner with Telstra to deliver the Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Awards (MTIA) for students in years 9-12 at a school in the Moreton Bay Region.

By partnering with Telstra, the Awards program will help students learn, explore and develop their entrepreneurial passions. The program brings creative ideas to life, connecting students with industry mentors to develop skills and promote critical thinking relevant to the industry.

The inaugural awards in 2022 showcased Moreton Bay’s brightest young entrepreneurs, with a record number of entries.

The 2022 MTIA came to an exciting conclusion at the final pitch night held at Grace Lutheran College in Caboolture, with the announcement of the winning teams and entrepreneurs.

2023 Mayors Telstra Innovation Awards

Council is proud to partner with Telstra again to deliver the Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Awards in 2023 for students in years 9-12 at a school in the Moreton Bay Region.

We will be back - bigger and brighter - with registrations opening from term 1 in 2023.

To register your interest, or to learn how to get involved, reach out to the project team at

The Mayor's Telstra Innovation Awards aim to:

  • nurture the knowledge of the young people in our region
  • encourage students to be innovative and collaborative by encouraging teamwork between students
  • highlight the importance of studying in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields for the future of the Moreton Bay Region – building a knowledge-based economy
  • foster a culture of entrepreneurship amongst young people in the region by connecting them to opportunities, e.g. access to mentors in the business community and other support channels.

This provides students with valuable experience and knowledge regarding entrepreneurship at a local level and incentivises students to take risks by making their own decisions to explore different opportunities.

This project directly aligns with Council’s Regional Economic Development Strategy 2020 - 2041 and two of the strategy’s four pillars - Industry Advancement and Knowledge, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

  • the use of existing technology in a new way to solve a community, environmental, or business challenge.

The possibilities are endless... and that is what makes these awards so exciting!
