Project Background

Council is planning to construct a rock groyne on the foreshore next to Sunset Park, Banksia Beach.

The proposed groyne structure will be located on the southern side of the entrance channel to Pacific Harbour. It will extend approximately 35 metres seaward from the existing vertical concrete wall.

Project objectives

The key objective of the work is to reduce the northerly transport of sand into the Pacific Harbour canal system. It also aims to reduce the accumulation of sand along the southern canal wall. Through the retention of sand, the project also seeks to improve coastal protection and amenity at Sunset Park.

Design and construction

Council has completed the detailed design and obtained approvals for the construction of the groyne. The groyne will be constructed of rock armourstone and extend beyond the low tide mark. A navigation beacon will be located at the end of the groyne to ensure navigational safety.
