Council acknowledges with deep respect the passing of Maroochy Barambah, Turrbal Elder, cultural knowledge holder, and song woman.

Maroochy’s life was one of profound cultural responsibility, wisdom, and generosity. She dedicated herself to the preservation and sharing of Turrbal song, story, and cultural knowledge, leaving an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire and guide future generations. Her passing is deeply felt across the whole community.

At this time of sorry business, Council honours Maroochy’s life, her contributions to Country and culture, and her significant role as a custodian of knowledge and song.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, Turrbal people, and the wider community.

May Maroochy’s spirit be carried gently on Country, and may her teachings, songs, and cultural knowledge continue to live on through the generations she nurtured.
