About the musician
Kellee Green is a jazz pianist and composer from Meanjin (Brisbane) and has been performing regularly since the age of 14. She became interested in jazz in her early teens and was fortunate enough to study jazz piano at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University under the tutelage of Dr Louise Denson. Kellee has been performing regularly in Brisbane and interstate for the last thirty years at venues such as the Brisbane Jazz Club, JMI Live and The Paris Cat.
Her debut album, Home, with Samuel Vincent (bass), John Parker (drums), Andrew Butt (saxophones) and Kristin Berardi (vocals) was released in early 2025. The title track of this album received Highly Commended at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards in the Jazz category. Another track, River to Sea, won the Jazz QMA in 2025.
In 2022 she recorded Mothers’ Suite, Sweet Mothers, a five-movement work for piano and violin that was commissioned for ABC Classic’s Fresh Start series and recorded by the label. This piece was highly reviewed and is on regular rotation on ABC Classic.
In recent years she has performed at the multiple Brisbane International Jazz Festivals and is the regular pianist for the Andrew Butt Trio+. This group launched their third album, Peregian, as part of the BIJF in October in 2024.
Having worked as a music teacher and Head of Music in Brisbane high schools, Kellee has a particular interest in working with young jazz musicians, helping them to gain confidence and explore improvisation in supportive and encouraging environments. She is passionate about providing opportunities for young women and non-binary students in jazz and helping to work towards gender parity in the Australian jazz community.
