Local business wins hotly contested $3.6m contract to beautify parks

Moreton Bay Regional Council has awarded local Brendale business Jungle Busters Group Pty Ltd the contract to maintain Council’s parks, streetscapes and roadsides in the region’s north, following a competitive open tender process.
Jungle Busters with their local knowledge and expertise in managing and delivering large-scale maintenance programs will deliver these services from 1 October 2021 to 30 June 2023.
Mayor Flannery said this is about giving a leg up to local businesses so they can keep workers on the tools and our region’s economy flowing.
“This is a significant sized contract awarded to Jungle Busters and I’m really pleased to give them this opportunity as I understand what it means to local business, their workers and families.
“This contract is one example of how Council is supporting the local economy through its procurement policy and local preference objective.
“The local preference initiative is not a handout to local businesses; it’s giving weighted favour in our tender process towards companies depending on how invested they are in our region. Council applies a value for money test on all its procurement activities as local or otherwise, it must deliver value to ratepayers.
“It’s not about giving local firms a competitive edge; it’s about helping businesses in the Moreton Bay Region to innovate and grow.
“In 2020-21 we contributed over $200,000 through this procurement policy to directly support local businesses and employment outcomes for the region.
“By contracting local, we have people ready to deliver services for Council who understand the value of the region’s visual amenity, public safety outcomes and creating a feeling of wellbeing for the community.
Council contracts commercial operators to deliver a large portion of its ground maintenance operations to maintain the region’s open spaces to the highest standards.
“We know our communities have a great deal of pride in their region and they want to see us make greater investment in our parks, green spaces and community facilities.
“This financial year we will deliver a record $245 million in capital works focusing on healthy and active lifestyles with $61 million allocated to beautifying and caring for our parks and surrounding environments.
“We want to create amazing places and spaces where people want to spend time being active, having some fun or exploring the region.
“With even more people spending time close to home we want our parks and playgrounds to be the best you can find in South East Queensland,” he said.
Maintaining and enhancing community spaces and facilities is one of Council’s strategic priorities and contributes to healthy and inclusive communities across the Moreton Bay Region.
