Bushcare volunteer groups

Our Bushcare program brings together passionate volunteers to care for our natural environment. They play an important role in conservation through implementing bush restoration projects.

These volunteer groups are an opportunity to get involved in hands-on conservation work. You’ll meet others in your area who share your passion for caring for the environment.

With more than 250 volunteers across 40 active groups, there's a Bushcare site near you waiting for a helping hand.

Volunteer activities

Through the program, volunteers will:

  • help restore and protect bushland, parks, wetlands and waterways
  • learn practical conservation skills like weed removal, mulching, and revegetation
  • join in citizen science, including wildlife monitoring and flora and fauna surveys
  • build connections and foster community pride in our natural spaces.

Volunteer requirements

Volunteers will need to have:

  • good communication skills
  • cooperation and willingness to work as a team
  • a moderate level of fitness for walking in reserves, pulling weeds and tree planting.

Council officers will give you all the training, tools, and support to be a Bushcare volunteer.
