Creative workshop with Darren Blackman
Next date: Saturday, 17 January 2026 | 10:30 AM
to 12:00 PM
Darren is being commissioned to create new artwork for City of Moreton Bay's Outdoor Gallery at MSEC.
Join Darren for Cut, Paste, Resist, a free creative workshop that explores the power of text in public art. Through group discussions, collage, and text-based activities, you’ll learn how to develop your own artistic ideas while sharing and listening to others.
This hands-on session celebrates the unique voices of the City of Moreton Bay community. It’s a chance for everyone to see the possibility in imagination, contradiction, and self-expression.
About the facilitator
Darren Blackman is a proud Gureng Gureng and Gangalu man from Queensland’s central coast. He also has South Sea Island heritage from Vanuatu.
Darren’s ancestors were not allowed to speak their own languages, so he now uses text in his art as a way to reclaim words and language.
Through painting, neon signs, and printmaking, Darren transforms text and symbols into artworks that honour his culture and the voices of his Elders.
