The contract for construction of the Suttons Beach Pavilion has been awarded with works set to start in early 2026 and be completed by mid-2027.
The project includes the striking new pavilion building, plus extensive landscaping, public changing rooms, new shade structures and an upgraded car park. Residents will also be able to enjoy new food and beverage opportunities at the site by the latter half of 2027, subject to the outcome of a separate tender process that is ongoing.
Mayor Peter Flannery said this was only the beginning for the Suttons Beach Pavillion park and community space.
“We can’t wait to see work start at the site, bringing us a step closer to the fantastic waterfront facilities envisaged for Suttons Beach,” he said.
“Locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy a vibrant hospitality scene and experience the beautiful peninsula beach environment with ample shade and amenities in our new landscaped grounds. We’re particularly pleased to add one of our accessible Changing Places facilities so everyone can enjoy our beaches.
“City of Moreton Bay is proud to invest in our parks and resident amenities like Suttons Beach. It’s all part of the plan to support our living City.”
Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer said she was proud the Australian Government was supporting this amazing, forward-thinking project that will be a boon for tourism and economic activity on the Redcliffe Peninsula for years to come.
“We all have so many great memories of this beautiful foreshore area and soon families will be able to make their own new memories with the new Pavilion as well," she said.
“I look forward to seeing the Pavilion take shape as we continue to shape a better South East Queensland for everyone."
Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley MP said this was a significant project milestone to bring the new Suttons Beach Pavilion to life.
“As a born and bred local, I’ve been visiting Suttons Beach for over five decades,” she said.
“It’s been a place of wonderful history, connection and beauty and we want it to continue to be that for generations to come.
“This announcement is one step closer to seeing new upgraded amenities that will be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.”
Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) said he was really excited for work to get going on the project.
“This one has taken some planning, so it’s great news for the community that it’s now come to fruition and work is about to start. I can’t wait for a tasty brekkie on the beach.”
This project is funded by City of Moreton Bay and the State and Federal Governments through the Liveability Fund, under the SEQ City Deal. The Deal is a $1.8 billion partnership between the Australian and Queensland Governments, and the Council of Mayors (SEQ) which aims to delivery projects of long-lasting benefits to the region.
Suttons Beach Pavilion Preservation Group President Jodie Starr said it was exciting that construction of the Pavilion was getting closer.
“This is a major milestone towards the community being able to enjoy having a new Pavilion in such a stunning location. We have been without facilities at this iconic location for a long time and look forward to the construction of a worthy replacement.
“We are proud to have been able to represent the community in getting the project this far.
“We recognise and thank the City of Moreton Bay staff, key project stakeholders, our State and Federal members and the councillors who have included us in this process and kept us informed.”
