Public safety cameras (CCTV)
Council operates an extensive closed-circuit television (CCTV) network and advanced supporting technical infrastructure. The CCTV network supports public and staff safety, asset protection, and business functions.
The CCTV program aims to:
- improve community safety
- support staff safety where required
- support business optimisation and compliance
- protect Council assets
- support a timely police response to incidents
- reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
- assist in the prevention and early detection of crime committed in public areas
- assist with tracking people or vehicles suspected of committing an offence
- aid in the apprehension and prosecution of offenders.
Portable CCTV program
Our Portable CCTV Program uses locally designed and built portable poles and variable message sign trailers fitted with cameras. This allows us to respond to community concerns and changing safety needs promptly.
We deploy portable CCTV assets across the city to:
- assist with hooning issues in residential and industrial areas
- work with Queensland Police (QPS) and assist with personal safety in public areas
- deter and detect vandalism in parks and other public places
- monitor flooding, storm surges and high tides during severe weather
- deter and detect offenders and support police with local crime issues. Council receives requests from QPS and the community to deploy portable CCTV in areas with an increase in crime. This may include break-ins, theft or car theft.
