Foreshore footpaths

Council is commissioning nine artists to create vinyl artworks for nine separate sections of concrete footpath along the foreshores at:

  • Woody Point, near Crockatt Park
  • Scott’s Point 
  • Redcliffe Lagoon
  • Scarborough Beach Park 
  • Scarborough Park 
  • Deception Bay, near Apex Park
  • Deception Bay along the esplanade
  • Bongaree north
  • Bongaree south.

Each section will be 25 metres long, the vinyl artworks will cover up to 30 percent across the 25 metre sections (not full coverage). The art will enhance the amenity of the area and showcase the creativity of our local artists.

This opportunity is open to artists who live within the Moreton Bay Regional Council local government area, or artists with a connection to the Jinibara, Kabi Kabi and Turrbal Traditional Owner groups who might live outside of the local government area. You must also be:

  • a practising artist 
  • 18 years of age or older
  • available for the program dates.

Curatorials theme

  • Natural environments from Woody Point to Bongaree.
  • Built environments in proximity to the foreshore around the bay such as architecture, shapes, colour or structural materials.
  • Experiences of the bay.

Assessment criteria

A successful application is not guaranteed by filling out the expression of interest form. Council will review and assess your submission against the following criteria:

  • strength and merit of artistic practice 
  • connection and relevance to the curatorial theme and sites
  • shows an understanding of making art for the public realm

This is an expression of interest. You are not required to submit a concept design. 

The commissioning process for the nine temporary public art opportunities will be guided by the Cultural Activation team within Cultural Services. During the concept design and design development phases of this project, you will be mentored by an external public art professional appointed by Council.

Each successful artist will be paid a fee for concept design and design development.

Expressions of interest closed at 11:59 PM Friday 9 September 2022. We will contact successful applicants by email on Friday 16 September 2022. 

Installation of the vinyl artworks will be in late November 2022 and removal will be in early June 2023.
