Next date: Thursday, 02 October 2025 | 10:00 AM
to 12:00 PM
Discover the fascinating world of native bees in this hands-on, fun, and free art workshop. Facilitated by sculptor Russell Solomon, this event is perfect for children and adults.
We’ll begin with a brief introduction to native bees and their vital role in supporting healthy ecosystems. Then, guided by your skill level, you’ll create colourful bee sculptures using soft chenille stems.
Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced, let your creativity lead the way when making these bees! For those who want to take their work further, you can craft a beautiful hanging mobile with flowers to display your bees on.
This is a chance to connect with nature, express your creativity, and learn about these important pollinators.
All materials are provided, and you don’t need any experience to take part, just bring your enthusiasm.
About the facilitator
Russell Solomon was born into an artistic family, most notably his grandfather, Lance Solomon, a renowned landscape painter. Under his tutelage, Russell followed his passion and honed his artistic skills.
After a lifetime of drawing, Russell discovered wire as a three-dimensional line and created his first wire sculpture in 1989. Using wire as a medium for expression, for drawing, offered Solomon a new level of tangibility and engagement to his art.
In his late twenties, Russell pursued a full-time career as an artist. Exhibiting extensively, creating prolifically, selling sculptures through markets, gallery gift shops, and boutique stores. Exploring the possibilities of the medium and conducting workshops in his local community, in schools, in regional remote communities, and First Nations communities around Australia.
In the past 25 years, he has incorporated recycled, found objects into his art and continues to express his concern for the environment, its inhabitants, and our impact on it. Russell’s arts practice is greatly influenced by his love of Australian native flora and fauna, our role in the environment and our impact on it.
Russell also often examines social issues facing society. His work is represented in private and corporate collections worldwide.
