Learn to draw while celebrating the colour and energy of spring in Moreton Bay at this botanical drawing art workshop.

Join artist Stephen Newton as he shows you the basics of sketching using lead and graphite and coloured pencils, and pastels.

This workshop encourages you to explore your artistic style, with a focus on freedom and creative expression. You'll bring your creativity to life, build confidence in your drawing skills, and develop your artistic voice.

The workshop begins with an exploration of mark-making, drawing media, and colour.

With guidance from Stephen, you'll produce a folio of botanical drawings and compositions. This can explore illustration, still life, pattern making, or abstraction.

Inspired by your imagination and personal designs, your folio will include A4 and A3 size drawings in black and white and colour.

About the facilitator

Stephen Newton has been a Brisbane-based artist and educator for over 40 years.

He has exhibited his sculpture and works on paper in Australia and abroad. He also has artwork held in the Queensland Art Gallery's permanent collection.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, a Graduate Diploma in Teaching, a Master of Arts in Visual Art and a PHD in Visual Art/Sculpture.

Stephen has designed, fabricated and installed large-scale public art projects in:

• Victoria
• Queensland
• New South Wales
• South Australia
• Australian Capital Territory.
