Draw an Osprey workshop at Osprey House

Join us for a creative day at Osprey House and learn how to draw one of Australia’s most iconic birds, the Osprey.

This hands-on workshop is all about bringing birds to life on paper. You’ll watch live demonstrations and try different sketching and illustration techniques. You don't need any previous drawing experience to take part! Whether you’re a birdwatcher, nature lover, scientist, or environmentalist, this is your chance to discover the art of bird illustration.

The workshop goes beyond drawing. You’ll head outside to watch Ospreys in their natural habitat along the boardwalks of Osprey House. Learn how to notice details, improve your bird identification skills, and translate what you see into sketches.

What to bring

We recommend bringing:

• a hat
• sunscreen
• water bottle
• lunch
• snacks.

All sketching materials are provided.

About the facilitator

The workshop is led by Dr Natalia Balo, a multi-award-winning Australian figurative artist known worldwide for her bird illustrations, portraits, and wildlife paintings. She holds a PhD in Natural History Illustration and is the author of Bird Anatomy for Artists. Natalia is passionate about sharing her skills. She gives each student the personalised support they need to grow.

This free workshop is a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and unlock your inner sketch artist. You’ll leave with new skills, beautiful drawings, and fresh inspiration.
