Get Ready - Domestic green waste exemption

Council is helping the community prepare for storm and bushfire season by providing a temporary exemption from domestic green waste charges and annual disposal limits.

The free green waste disposal program will be held from 19 to 30 September 2022. During this time, green waste disposal will not contribute to your annual entitlements of 3 tonnes or 26 visits, whichever is reached first, as per Council's Disposal of waste free of charge policy(PDF, 296KB)

Take advantage of this great opportunity and prepare your home and property by:

  • clearing your gutters and drainpipes of vegetation
  • trimming overhanging branches
  • mowing your lawn
  • clearing your yard of debris
  • hedging back vegetation on your property.

Residents are encouraged to take only loads of green waste to facilitate operations and reduce the time spent at the facility. Mixed loads will result in your visit contributing to your annual waste disposal entitlements.

What is acceptable green waste?

Acceptable green waste includes:

  • branches
  • palm fronds
  • weeds
  • tree and shrub pruning
  • loose bark
  • and grass clippings.

Who is eligible for the exemption?

This exemption will only apply to domestic customers that can show residency within the Moreton Bay Region or non-resident domestic ratepayers that can present a valid Waste Disposal Authority (WDA) upon arrival at the waste facility. Customers will not be eligible if they are disposing of commercial waste, including approved commercial WDA and/or if disposing of green waste for a fee or reward.

Where to dispose

All of Council's waste management facilities and transfer stations will be accepting green waste.

To support this initiative, Bunya, Dakabin, and Caboolture waste facilities will extend their operating hours from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Due to the size of the facility, Dayboro, Samford, and Mt Nebo accept local residential waste only.
