After nearly 50 years serving the community, the Redcliffe War Memorial Pool was in need of some TLC.

Maintenance works commenced in May this year, but the construction crew on site has advised additional repairs are needed.

“Given the pool opened in 1971, it’s not surprising that it’s showing its age in places,” said Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery.

“However with summer approaching my priority is to ensure works on the indoor 50-metre pool are finished come January 2021, even if works on the indoor 18-metre pool may take a while longer.

“I want to thank the community for their patience while the pool remains closed, I certainly hope to see the outdoor pool in use again this summer.

“We started works reapplying grout to tiles and replacing cracked or damaged tiles during the COVID-19 forced closure period to try to avoid disruptions for pool users.

“However the contractors have discovered that additional works are required as the concrete under the tiles was wet and now all the tiles must be replaced.”

Council’s seasonal pools, including the Deception Bay Pool, have reopened for the summer season.
