Disability Action Week grants closing soon

Time is running out for local community groups to apply for up to $1,000 in funding to host events and activities through Disability Action Week thanks to Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Disability Access Spokesperson Councillor Denise Sims said Disability Action Week, held annually in September, was a chance to empower people with disability and raise awareness of disability issues across the region.

“This grant is a great way to support community groups and organisations to deliver initiatives in celebration of Disability Action Week and highlight disability issues in our community,” she said.

“Last year, local community organisations held a variety of events and activities in their local area like an expo to showcase support services and a Sensory Pool Day.”

With approximately one in five Queenslanders having a disability, and disability touching the lives of most Queenslanders in some way, the week is an important celebration.

Funding closes July 1, 2019.
